SmartSens Announces 50MP 0.61 Micron-Pixel CMOS Image Sensor for Smartphone Cameras

Shanghai, China, July 23, 2026, SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, a technologically advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, has officially launched its latest 50MP 0.61μm pixel size CMOS image sensor for smartphone cameras — the SC505HS. Built on the SmartClarity^®-3 process and incorporating SFCPixel^® technology, the SC505HS delivers multiple advantages including low power consumption, high sensitivity, Sparse PDAF^® autofocus and a ULP mode. The SC505HS delivers excellent imaging performance while also offering cost efficiency. It provides a comprehensive imaging upgrade for mainstream smartphone cameras, covering main cameras, front-facing cameras, and ultra-wide-angle applications.

Main Features

Low Power Consumption

The SC505HS leverages precise control over its internal circuit modules, achieving an approximately 18% reduction in power consumption compared to the previous generation, which effectively enhances energy efficiency in video recording scenarios. In real-world use, whether for video recording, Vlog creation or extended video calls, the smartphone’s temperature rise is significantly mitigated, while battery life is extended.

In addition, the SC505HS supports Sparse PDAF®, achieving fast and accurate focusing while reducing operating power consumption. The ULP (Ultra-Low Power) mode further helps reduce power consumption and enhance overall battery life. Combined with back-end algorithms, it empowers smartphone camera systems to perform complex AI-driven functions, including gesture, facial, and scene recognition.

High Sensitivity

Based on BSI architecture and featuring SmartSens' patented SFCPixel^® technology, the SC505HS delivers a quantum efficiency (QE) of up to 76% at 520 nm. In challenging low-light conditions, including overcast outdoor conditions, dusk, and dim indoor light—it captures sufficient light to produce bright and detail-rich images.

Optimized High Temperature Performance

Leveraging SmartSens' advanced SmartClarity^®-3 process technology, the SC505HS delivers a significant upgrade in high-temperature imaging performance. At an operating temperature of 60°C, the SC505HS achieves an approximately 23% reduction in dark current and a roughly 24% reduction in white pixels compared to the previous-generation product. Even when a smartphone operates for extended periods and heat accumulates continuously inside the device, the SC505HS still delivers stable, high-resolution images.
