SmartSens Launches 50MP 0.64μm CMOS Image Sensor for Smartphone Cameras

Shanghai, China, December 11, 2025, SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, announced SC512HS, a 50-megapixel (MP) 0.64-micron Pixel CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) for smartphone cameras. Based on SmartSens’ SmartClarity^®-SL technology, SC512HS is equipped with patented technologies such as PixGain HDR^®, SFCPixel^®-SL and AllPix ADAF^®. It features multiple performance advantages including high dynamic range, low noise, and all pixel autofocus. As an extension of SmartSens’ domestic high-performance Stacked BSI platform series, SC512HS offers a good balance of performance and cost. It is well-suited for various smartphone camera applications, serving as the main cameras in mainstream phones and secondary cameras in mid-to-high-end devices.

Main Features

High Dynamic Range

Leveraging SmartSens’ proprietary PixGain HDR^® technology, SC512HS achieves a maximum dynamic range of 81dB, which enables smartphones to retain more details in both highlights and shadows during video recording, even under complex lighting conditions such as blacklight or strong outdoor light and high contrast scenes. Furthermore, PixGain HDR^® technology is implemented through dual-frame fusion within a single exposure. The approach effectively suppresses motion artifacts, ensuring high dynamic range video remains clear and free from motion blur. Additionally, SC512HS supports several HDR modes, including Staggered HDR and NDOL HDR. This flexibility allows it to meet diverse imaging strategy requirements across different application scenarios.

Low Noise

Benefiting from SmartSens’ advanced SFCPixel^® technology, SC512HS achieves a significant reduction in noise. Its read noise is approximately 0.75 e-, representing a 50% decrease compared to competitive products of similar specifications in the industry. The excellent noise suppression capability directly enhances the low-light performance of smartphone cameras, delivering finer, cleaner nighttime photos and videos.

In-Sensor Zoom

SC512HS supports full 50-megapixel image output, delivering professional-level ultra-high image resolution to smartphone cameras. Moreover, it is equipped with In-Sensor Zoom (ISZ) technology, which enables on-chip lossless 2x digital zoom directly. This ensures high-definition image quality at both the 1x and 2x focal lengths frequently used in real-world shooting scenarios, thereby significantly enhancing the photographic experience for mainstream smartphone primary cameras.

AllPix ADAF^® & Sparse PDAF^®

SC512HS features SmartSens’ AllPix ADAF^® and Sparse PDAF^® technologies, offering two fast autofocus modes that deliver an excellent balance between focusing efficiency and low power consumption across diverse lighting conditions. Ordinary smartphone cameras often suffer from degraded focusing speed and accuracy in low-light scenarios such as night and dusk environments. SC512HS directly addresses this challenge with its AllPix ADAF^® mode. By leveraging 100% of its pixels for focusing, it enables fast and precise autofocus even in dark settings.

Under daylight conditions, SC512HS can switch seamlessly to Sparse PDAF^® mode. This method utilizes only 6% of pixels for phase detection, not only maintaining accurate, rapid focus but also significantly reducing camera power consumption.

Low Power Consumption

Built on SmartSens’ SmartClarity^®-SL technology platform, SC512HS utilizes a 55nm stacked process, which ensures excellent overall performance while effectively reducing power consumption. Its ultra-low-power design helps mitigate device overheating during operation and extends the maximum recording duration for high-definition video, ultimately supporting longer device battery life.

As a new addition to SmartSens’ high-performance stacked BSI series, SC512HS strikes an excellent balance between performance and cost efficiency. It can work alongside other products in the series, including SC562HS, SC532HS and SC130HS. Together, they provide a complete CIS solution for smartphone cameras, supporting the local supply of smartphone CIS in China. This product lineup offers a diverse range of options for manufacturers.
