SmartSens Announces 4MP Near-Infrared Enhanced CMOS Image Sensor for Intelligent Security Applications
2025-8-7
Shanghai, China, August 7, 2025 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced SC489SL, a 4-MegaPixel (MP) CMOS Image Sensor for intelligent security applications. Based on SmartSens’ advanced SmartClarity®-3, SC489SL adopts SmartSens’ new Lightbox IR®-2 technology, which deeply optimizes Near-Infrared sensitivity, thus providing clean and bright images for security cameras in outdoor low-light scenes. In addition, employing SFCPixel® technology etc., SC489SL also features high dynamic range, low noise and low power consumption, which effectively helps the upgrade of intelligent security applications.

Main features
Near-Infrared (NIR) enhancement
Developed upon SmartSens’ new Lightbox IR®-2 technology, through optimizing wafer epitaxy and Backside Deep Trench Isolation (BDTI) process, SC489SL achieves Near-Infrared (NIR) enhancement. As the first high-performance BSI product equipped with Lightbox IR®-2 technology, compared with its predecessor, SC489SL has a 45% increase in peak Quantum Efficiency (QE) at the 850nm wavelength and a 40% increase in peak Quantum Efficiency (QE) at the 940nm wavelength. Near-Infrared (NIR) enhancement of SC489SL helps the camera effectively expand the viewing range under dual infrared lights, achieving clear imaging at the distance of 120 meters, thus providing reliable support for outdoor long-distance security applications at night.

Excellent all-round capabilities
As a BSI high-performance image sensor, SC489SL delivers excellent performance in high dynamic range, low noise, and low power consumption, which helps to meet the shooting requirements of security cameras in various lighting conditions such as high contrast and low illumination. SC489SL supports ColGain HDR® and 2-exposure Staggered HDR, which effectively avoid overexposure in strong-light environments and the loss of dark details in low-light environments, thus presenting high-quality images with clear and rich details. Moreover, on the basis of SmartSens advanced SFCPixel® and ultra-low noise readout circuit technology, SC489SL has low noise performance, with Read Noise (RN) as low as 0.6e-, helping cameras capture clearer images in low-light environments. In addition, based on SmartSens excellent low power consumption design, the power consumption of SC489SL can be as low as 300mW at the frame rate of 90fps, which helps the all-day continuous and stable operation of security applications.

SC489SL is sampling now and will be mass-produced in Q4 2025. For more information or to request a sample, please contact SmartSens Sales Representatives: cs@smartsenstech.com
