SmartSens Announces New 3MP High-Performance CMOS Image Sensor for IOT Applications

Shanghai, China, January 10, 2025 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically-advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced a new CMOS image sensor of SmartSens HIOT Series, the 3-MegaPixel (MP) SC301HIOT. SC301HIOT comes in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Employing SmartSens’ advanced technologies including DSI™-2 Plus, SmartAOV™, SC301HIOT features Near-Infrared (NIR) enhancement, High dynamic range, Always-On Video (AOV), and low power consumption, which meets the upgrade needs of IOT cameras such as smart doorbells/door locks, pet feeders, as well as panoramic fisheye cameras and binocular splicing cameras.

Main features

4:3 aspect ratio

SC301HIOT has 2048Hx1536V resolution in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Compared with the 16:9 aspect ratio CIS, SC301HIOT provides a larger field of view for small, wide-angle cameras such as 360° panoramic fisheye cameras and 180° binocular stitched cameras, which helps to make cost-effective solutions with one sensor.

Clear low-light imaging

Developed upon DSI-2™ Plus process technology, SC301HIOT achieves Near-Infrared(NIR) enhancement through optimizing wafer epitaxy and front-end processes. Compared with its predecessor, SC301HIOT has a 29% increase in peak Quantum Efficiency (QE) at the 850nm wavelength and a 35% increase in QE at the 940nm wavelength, providing clearer and brighter images for the camera in low-light scenes.

Thanks to SmartSens' advanced DSI-2™ Plus and ultra-low noise readout circuit technologies, SC301HIOT has a Read Noise (RN) as low as 0.66e- and a Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) of 0.1e- to provide clear and low-noise images for cameras. Besides, SC301HIOT can support 2-exposure staggered HDR with dynamic range over 100dB, which presents high-quality images with clear and rich details.

AOV and low power consumption

Equipped with SmartSens' SmartAOV™ technology, SC301HIOT supports Always-On Video (AOV). When moving target is detected, SC301HIOT is awakened quickly by built-in functions including AEC/AGC/AWB, and captures videos at a normal frame rate of 30fps. When moving target is not detected, SC301HIOT captures videos at a low frame rate of 1fps (the power consumption is < 40mW), to capture all-day videos 24/7. As a result, AOV helps reduce the power consumption of the whole camera, which further ensures battery-powered camera devices (e.g. smart doorbells/door locks) and network-free devices (e.g. 4G solar-powered cameras) to achieve power-saving.

Based on the precise control of internal modules, the power consumption of SC301HIOT is as low as about 100mW at a frame rate of 30fps, which effectively reduces the heat and improves the battery life of the whole device.

SmartSens has launched 3 CMOS image sensor products for fisheye and stitched camera applications, with resolutions ranging from 3MP to 6MP. In the future, SmartSens will continue to launch more high-resolution, high-performance CMOS image sensors.
