SmartSens Announces New 13MP CMOS Image Sensor for Smartphone Cameras
2023-9-28
Shanghai, China, September 28, 2023 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically-advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced SC1320CS, a 13-MegaPixel (MP) CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) of SmartSens Cellphone Sensor (CS) Series. Incorporating SmartSens’ proprietary technologies including SmartClarity®-3, this BSI image sensor in 23.61mm2 chip size features higher sensitivity, improved dynamic range, better noise control, etc., delivering excellent image quality to smartphone rear-facing main cameras, ultra-wide cameras, front-facing cameras.
Main features
Clear capture of day/night scenes
The BSI SC1320CS image sensor provides light sensitivity improvement by employing SmartSens’ proprietary technologies including SmartClarity®-3 and SFCPixel®. Compared with its predecessor, SC1320CS achieves a 23% growth in sensitivity and a 12% rise in Quantum Efficiency (QE), enabling better imaging performance in low-light conditions. SC1320CS has a 4dB improvement in dynamic range when compared with its predecessor, retaining more image highlight and shadow details, thus depicting fine images of day/night scenes.
SC1320CS supports Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF) technology, which enables cameras’ fast, precise image output, thereby helping smartphone users capture everyday moments at their fingertips.
Excellent image quality
SmartSens’ ultra-low noise readout circuit enables enhanced noise control of the SC1320CS image sensor. SC1320CS achieves Read Noise (RN) and Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) of less than 1.1e- and less than 0.2e- respectively, approximately 48% and 30% lower than similar CISs in the industry. The PRNU and white pixel are about 16% and 65% less than similar CISs in the industry. These noise control capabilities result in sharper, more defined image output. SmartSens’ upgraded color process equips the sensor with stunning image output.
In addition, SC1320CS comes in a 23.61mm2 chip size, which is 14% less than similar CISs in the industry, allowing for size shrinking of smartphone camera modules, thus providing space saving for smartphone hardware integration.
“SmartSens’ latest CS Series image sensor, SC1320CS, features higher sensitivity, improved dynamic range, and better noise control, etc., and supports PDAF technology, delivering excellent image quality to smartphone cameras,” said Ms. Peiling Zhang, Chief Marketing Officer at SmartSens Technology. “SmartSens will expand its CS Series with more high-performance CIS solutions, pushing the development of smartphone imaging technology to new levels.”
SC1320CS is sampling now and will be mass-produced in Q4 2023. For more information or to request a sample, please contact SmartSens Sales Representatives: cs@smartsenstech.com
