SmartSens Introduces New 1.3MP Automotive-Grade CMOS Image Sensor with Large Pixel Size for Automotive Surround View Cameras

Shanghai, China, June 29, 2023 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically-advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced SC130AT, a 1.3-MegaPixel (MP) automotive-grade CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) of SmartSens Automotive Sensor (AT) Series. The SC130AT image sensor is AEC-Q100 Grade 2 compliant. Utilizing SmartSens’ advanced technologies including SmartClarity^®-2, PixGain HDR^®, and the upgraded Raw algorithms, this BSI image sensor with large pixel size features enhanced full-color night vision, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and advanced image quality, which makes it ideal for automotive surround view cameras.

SmartSens AT Series now features ten automotive-grade CISs with resolution from 1MP to 8MP, providing high-quality imaging solutions for automotive viewing applications, automotive sensing applications, and automotive in-cabin monitoring applications.

Enhanced full-color night vision

Employing SmartSens’ advanced technologies including SmartClarity^®-2, SFCPixel^®, and PixGain, SC130AT with a large pixel size of 3.75μm features high sensitivity, high Full Well Capacity (FWC), and low noise with conversion gains, thereby delivering high-quality, reliable image output to automotive surround view systems under low light/illumination conditions. SC130AT achieves a sensitivity of up to 12370mV/lux·s, which is approximately 54% higher than its predecessor, enabling its bright, clear image capture in low-light environments. The FWC of SC130AT is up to 27000e-, which is roughly 69% higher than its predecessor, resulting in significant increase in image brightness and clarity under low-light conditions such as night drive. Equipped with SmartSens’ advanced ultra-low noise readout circuit and upgraded color process, the sensor has Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) of down to 0.09e- at 16x gain, which is about 31% lower than its predecessor. In addition, the SC130AT image sensor achieves 0% blooming, which brings about lower noise, and more accurate chroma of the image output.

High Dynamic Range (HDR)

In addition to Staggered HDR, SC130AT supports PixGain HDR^®, a SmartSens’ proprietary technology that combines different conversion gains of the same frame, and thus ensuring the accurate image capture during high-speed drive and avoiding motion artifacts. The SC130AT image sensor delivers 120dB HDR, providing automotive surround view systems with clear image capture with highlight and shadow details across a range of challenging lighting conditions, thereby promoting driving safety.

Advanced image quality

SC130AT delivers more advanced image quality with upgraded ISP algorithms. Raw domain algorithms such as noise reduction, adaptive purple fringing correction, and HDR fusion have been upgraded, resulting in significant improvement in image clarity and image details, as well as effective removal of color deviation of the image. With enhanced color accuracy and image quality, this sensor can further support automotive surround view systems to identify obstacles in the surroundings accurately. For variable lighting conditions such as tunnel entrance and exit, the upgraded Raw algorithms enable SC130AT to capture clear images with rich details for automotive surround view systems during the drive.
