SmartSens Launches Two New 1/3-Inch Low-Power CMOS Image Sensors for AIoT and Security Applications

Shanghai, China, October 8, 2022 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically-advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced two new 1/3-inch CMOS Image Sensors (CISs) for AIoT and security applications, SC2331 as a 2MP CIS, and SC3332 as a 3MP CIS. Employing SmartSens’ proprietary technologies including upgraded DSI-2 technology, SC2331 and SC3332 deliver enhanced performance in image quality with low power consumption. Both SC2331 and SC3332 can match a 1/3-inch lens. As high-performance solutions, SC2331 and SC3332 can empower applications including IP Cameras (IPCs) for home security, security cameras, as well as AIoT.

Enhanced image quality

Utilizing SmartSens’ proprietary technologies including upgraded DSI-2 technology, SFCPixel^® technology, and ultra-low noise readout circuit, SC2331 and SC3332 achieve excellent performance in low-light imaging and noise control. The newly released Pro-series key technologies including upgraded micro-lenses, color filters, and color-processing technology are employed on both SC2331 and SC3332. These allow image capture over a wide range of wavelengths, resulting in improved low-light imaging performance, providing image outputs with clearer image details under low-light conditions. SC3332 has 49% less read noise and 77% less Fixed-pattern noise (FPN) than other 3MP CISs in the industry, enabling it to produce clear images in low-light conditions. SC2331’s blooming of below 1% can minimize photoelectron emission, therefore ensuring the quality of the image outputs under strong light/illumination conditions. The chroma of both SC2331 and SC3332 has been optimized. Take SC3332 as an example. Compared with other 3MP CISs in the industry, SC3332 has a 23% increase in chroma for D65 and a 34% rise in chroma for Normal A, which leads to outstanding colored image outputs.

Low power consumption

With optimized internal circuits, SC2331 and SC3332 deliver image outputs with low power consumption. SC2331 consumes 49% less power than other 2MP CISs in the industry, while SC3332 consumes 32% less power than other 3MP CISs in the industry. As a result, both SC2331 and SC3332 can better support AIoT wireless video cameras for 24/7 video recording.

Good match for a 1/3-inch lens

As 1/3-inch lenses are considered to have good prospects of growth in the home security IPCs market, the two 1/3-inch CISs, SC2331 and SC3332, can serve as good matches for 1/3-inch lenses used for IP Cameras (IPCs) for home security. Matching a 1/3-inch lens, either SC2331 or SC3332 achieves image output equivalent to that produced by a 1/2.7-inch CIS/lens combination.
