SAN JOSE, Calif. — November 26, 2018 — The International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) 2019 has reviewed its upcoming program, and in a historic breakthrough for China, has chosen multiple Chinese papers for presentation. The research paper submitted by SmartSens in the field of CMOS Image Sensors (CIS), “A Stacked Global-Shutter CMOS Imager with SC-Type Hybrid-GS Pixel and Self-Knee Point Calibration Single-Frame HDR and On-Chip Binarization Algorithm for Smart Vision Applications,” was cited by the ISSCC committee, making SmartSens the first Chinese company to be selected in this field.

Crowned the “Olympic Conference of the integrated circuit industry,” ISSCC is the foremost conference in the field of integrated circuit design being recognized by both academia and business communities around the world. Other Chinese papers selected included submissions from Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Southeast University and ADI China.

SmartSens CTO and co-author of the paper, Dr. Yaowu Mo, said, “We are very pleased to be recognized by the ISSCC committee, which selected our latest research paper in the CIS field. This is a success inseparable from the unremitting efforts by our R&D team and the huge investment in technology advancements by SmartSens. The CIS field has long been monopolized by American and Japanese manufacturers. Since its founding, SmartSens has worked toward the goal of making the ‘China voice’ heard and enabling the country to become a major driving force in the global development of CIS technology through technological innovation and breakthroughs.”

ISSCC 2019 will be held from February 17 to 21 in San Francisco where SmartSens will present the paper. With its forward-looking, sophisticated findings, the company has also been chosen to make the opening keynote speech at the image sensor technology seminar.

The research results to be presented at the opening keynote will be the most prominent of the seminar and are expected to lead development in the field. SmartSens will represent China’s sensor companies, breaking the monopoly of traditional enterprises. This will not only represent historical significance, but will also lay a solid technical foundation for the rapid development of image sensor industry.

Originated in 1953, the ISSCC has historically been the forum where a number of integrated circuit breakthroughs have made their debut and established the industry milestones. Among them are the world’s first integrated analog amplifier circuit (1968), the world's first 8-bit microprocessor (1974), the world's first 32-bit microprocessor (1981), the world's first 1Gb DRAM (1995), the world's first GHz microprocessor (2002) and the world's first multi-core processor (2005). More than 3,000 members from the industry and academia around the world attend the conference annually.
