SmartSens Announces New 2MP and 4MP High-performance CMOS Image Sensors for Intelligent Security Applications

(SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, today launched the SC2338V (2MP) and SC4338V (4MP) – two new high-performance CMOS image sensors for intelligent security applications. Both sensors are built on the DSI™‑3 process technology and integrate SmartSens' innovative SmartAOV^®2.1 technology. They support Always‑On Video (AOV) functionality, enabling 24/7 stable imaging for wireless battery‑powered cameras and 4G solar‑powered surveillance devices. Leveraging advanced technologies such as InSensor HDR™ and SFCPixel^®, the sensors deliver optimized dynamic range and noise performance, ensuring clear, high‑quality imagery for surveillance cameras.

Main Features

SmartAOV^®2.1 Technology

As the first CIS products in SmartSens' portfolio to implement SmartAOV®2.1 technology on the FSI process, the SC2338V and SC4338V support Always‑On Video (AOV). When an event is triggered, they start up instantly and record continuous, full‑motion video at a 30fps frame rate. In the absence of events, they operate in low‑power recording mode at 1fps.

Powered by SmartSens' SmartAOV^®2.1 technology, the SC2338V and SC4338V significantly improve the convergence speed of embedded high‑frame‑rate, low‑resolution thumbnail images. This enables rapid switching in response to sudden ambient light changes at 1fps operation. With this optimization, the sensors help the host processor quickly obtain the exposure, gain, and white balance parameters required for full‑resolution image output, ensuring fast convergence to clear image quality. They also effectively reduce overall system power consumption, enabling 24/7 continuous and stable video recording for wireless battery‑powered cameras and 4G solar‑powered surveillance devices.

High Dynamic Range

Leveraging SmartSens' InSensor HDR™ technology, the SC2338V and SC4338V achieve maximum dynamic ranges of 76.7dB and 77.3dB, respectively, while effectively suppressing motion blur. InSensor HDR™ supports DR100, DR200, and DR400 gain ratios, making it suitable for scenes ranging from uniform to high-contrast lighting. It ensures that highlights are not overexposed while shadow details remain clearly visible.

Furthermore, with SmartSens' InSensor HDR™ technology, the SC2338V and SC4338V support native HDR fusion on the sensor, outputting 10‑bit images across all three gain ratios (DR100, DR200, and DR400) while maintaining native 11‑bit (DR200) / 12‑bit (DR400) HDR quality. This effectively reduces memory usage on the host processor, enabling mainstream solutions that only support low‑bit‑depth processing, as well as multi‑camera systems with multiple CIS image transmission, to achieve high‑quality HDR imaging.

Low Noise

The SC2338V and SC4338V are equipped with SFCPixel^® technology and ultra‑low noise peripheral readout circuitry, delivering exceptional noise suppression performance. Under high‑gain long‑exposure conditions, the read noise (RN) of the SC2338V and SC4338V is as low as 0.74e⁻ and 0.82e⁻, respectively. This enables clear and detailed image capture in low‑light scenes such as at nighttime and dusk, effectively enhancing the imaging quality of surveillance cameras.

As a 2MP resolution image sensor, the SC2338V offers an optimal balance between performance and cost, making it well‑suited for multi‑camera surveillance configurations. The SC4338V, with its 4MP resolution, delivers sharper image capture and meets the image quality requirements of mainstream security applications, providing reliable visual support.

In addition, the SC2338V and SC4338V are Pin2Pin compatible with previous‑generation products (CSP 35‑pin package), allowing direct adaptation to existing hardware designs and enabling customers to achieve rapid product upgrades and iterations.
