SmartSens Announces New 3MP CMOS Image Sensor SC360AT for ADAS Cameras

Shanghai, China, April 17, 2025 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically-advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced SC360AT, a new 3-MegaPixel (MP) automotive-grade CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) of SmartSens Automotive Sensor (AT) Series. Compliant with ISO 26262 ASIL-B and ISO 21434, SC360AT is SmartSens’ first Stacked BSI rolling shutter image sensor to develop upon CarSens^®-XR Gen 2 process technology. Incorporating SmartSens’ advanced technology including SuperPixGain HDR™ 2.0, LFS, etc., the 3.0µm SC360AT features high sensitivity, High Dynamic Range (HDR), low noise, and low power consumption with LED Flicker Suppression (LFS), delivering clear, precise, and reliable imaging performance for ADAS cameras such as side view, rear view, and surround view cameras.

SmartSens AT Series now features automotive-grade CISs with resolution from 1MP to 8MP, providing high-quality imaging solutions for ADAS applications, automotive sensing applications, and in-cabin monitoring applications.

Main features

High sensitivity

The SC360AT image sensor incorporates SuperPixGain HDR™ 2.0 technology to achieve improvement in both sensitivity and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) through single pixel architecture and overflow charge storage. The SC360AT has a sensitivity of up to 12,348 mV/lux*s and a peak Quantum Efficiency (QE) of 82% at the 520nm wavelength. Compared to the conventional split-pixel CIS, the SC360AT effectively resolves issues such as pixel crosstalk and color distortion, delivering brighter and clearer images for automotive cameras, even in low-light conditions.

High Dynamic Range (HDR)

SC360AT supports multiple HDR modes including SuperPixGain HDR™ + VS and SuperPixGain HDR™, which satisfy the needs of performance upgrades of various automotive cameras. With SuperPixGain HDR™ + VS mode (4-frame HDR) enabled, SC360AT can achieve a high dynamic range of up to 140dB, which can effectively resolve the loss of image details under challenging lighting conditions such as backlight (tunnel exit) and strong light (high beams of oncoming vehicles at night), and thereby improve the accuracy and efficiency of automotive camera detection and recognition. SC360AT supports SuperPixGain HDR™ mode (3-frame HDR with a dynamic range of over 110dB), which combines three frames of different gains at the same exposure, enabling clear, real-time image captures with highlight and shadow details.

Low noise and low power consumption

Thanks to SmartSens' advanced technologies including SFCPixel^® and ultra-low noise readout circuits, SC360AT has excellent performance in noise control. Compared with similar products in the industry, the Read Noise (RN), Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN), and PRNU are reduced by about 11%, 21%, and 49%, respectively, enabling the sensor’s clear and low-noise image output for automotive cameras even in low-light scenes, which helps increase the accuracy of image recognition and detection of intelligent automobile vision systems.

Utilizing SmartSens’ CarSens^®-XR Gen 2 technology, the stacked BSI SC360AT achieves ultra-low power consumption. With SuperPixGain HDR™ + VS mode (4-frame HDR) enabled, the typical power consumption is below 310mW, which helps reduce the operating heat of the whole automotive camera, thereby improving the reliability and stability of the automotive camera.

LED Flicker Suppression (LFS)

To resolve stripes and flashing spots of CIS’ imaging caused by LED flickering, SC360AT employs SmartSens’ proprietary LED Flicker Suppression (LFS) technology, a technology that suppresses LED flickers via overriding the LED flicker frequency by extending the exposure time of certain pixels, which can resolve the image flickering caused by LED light sources such as LED traffic signals and driving lights.
