SmartSens Adds Three New CMOS Image Sensors to Its AI Series for AIoT and Security Applications

2023-10-24

Shanghai, China, October 24, 2023 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically-advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced three new CMOS image sensors of SmartSens Advanced Imaging (AI) Series, the 2-MegaPixel (MP) SC235AI, the 4MP SC435AI, and the 8MP SC835AI. Leveraging SmartSens’ advanced technologies including SmartClarity®-3 and Lightbox IR®, the three BSI image sensors provide superior performance in low light imaging, imaging at high temperatures, low power consumption, etc., which makes them ideal for camera upgrades of AIoT and security applications.

Main features

Low light imaging

SC235AI, SC435AI, and SC835AI utilize SmartClarity®-3 and Lightbox IR® to achieve enhanced imaging performance in low-light or dark environments. SmartSens’ proprietary SFCPixel® technology and the BSI pixel structure equip the three sensors to achieve growth in sensitivity and Quantum Efficiency (QE). At the 520nm wavelength of visible light, the QE of SC235AI and SC435AI are more than 22% and 28% higher than their predecessors, respectively. In the meantime, Lightbox IR® provides significant improvement in the sensors’ Near-Infrared (NIR) sensitivity via processes including Optical Modulator (OM) and Deep Trench Isolation (DTI), and hence reduced pixel crosstalk. Compared with its predecessor, SC835AI has a 75% jump in QE at the 850nm wavelength, and a 94% surge in QE at the 940nm wavelength, enabling its clear, accurate image capture in low light conditions.

The three new sensors support 2-exposure staggered HDR mode. SC835AI has a 3dB rise in dynamic range and a 28% fall in Read Noise (RN) when compared with its predecessor, yielding its image output with highlight and shadow details even in strong light/illumination environments. In addition, SmartSens’ upgraded color process brings image outputs with vivid colors.

Imaging at high temperatures

Using SmartSens’ advanced technologies such as ultra-low noise readout circuit, etc., the three sensors deliver optimized imaging performance at high temperatures. At a temperature of 80°C, SC835AI has significant reductions of 39% in DarkCurrent (DC), 69% in Dark Shading, and 49% in White Pixel (WP) when compared with its predecessor, thereby enabling its high-quality, stable image output in high-temperature environments.

Low power consumption

The precise control of internal modules equips the three sensors to achieve low power consumption. At a frame rate of 30fps, the power consumption of SC835AI is less than 204mW, which effectively saves power and reduces the heat of the whole camera during all-day operation.

“The SC235AI, SC435AI, and SC835AI image sensors, containing two digits ‘35’, are named after SmartSens’ first best-selling security CIS, SC1035,” said Ms. Peiling Zhang, Chief Marketing Officer at SmartSens Technology. “The three new sensors utilize SmartClarity®-3 and Lightbox IR® to achieve superior performance in low light imaging, imaging at high temperatures, low power consumption, etc., which are ideal for camera upgrades of AIoT and security applications. SmartSens is now on a mission to develop more high-performance CIS solutions that end with ‘35AI’, helping to drive the improvement of AIoT and security industry.”

SC235AI, SC435AI, and SC835AI are sampling now and will be mass-produced in Q1 2024. For more information or to request a sample, please contact SmartSens Sales Representatives: cs@smartsenstech.com
